NEP Switzerland realizes Remote Studio- / Playout-Facilities for MySports Channel in Zurich and Rossens

Editorial, Public Relations on 15. January 2018

Remote Production Studio and Playout Facility from NEP Switzerland

A new Swiss sports channel is broadcasting live coverage of all ice hockey matches in the Swiss National League, along with matches from the Russian KHL and the Swedish Hockey League. Called MySports, it also carries Bundesliga football, handball, basketball, winter sports and large eSports events broadcasts. Having begun broadcasting from its headquarters in Erlenbach near Zurich in mid-November, MySports is now producing its programming from a Broadcast Center in the former Schärer factory on Lake Zurich and a satellite studio in Rossens. NEP Switzerland is responsible for the planning and construction of the complex and is in charge of day-to-day operations acting as a production service provider. Working with German system integrator Broadcast Solutions, NEP Switzerland has set up a 1,000-sq-m, 4K/UHD studio complex that includes a Playout Center in Zurich. This runs 20 live channels, including four 24/7 channels and two 4K/UHD channels – together, the implementation of 4K/UHD, and innovative control and production, make workflows both secure and able to accommodate changes during production. The Rossens studio, meanwhile, produces all French MySports programming in cooperation with the Zurich site. NEP Switzerland manages signal management between both locations using an IP networked production environment. The Erlenbach location houses a four-camera studio with production rooms, commentary booths and playout centre. The Rossens studio also uses four cameras and is remotely controlled from Erlenbach. This facility also includes editing rooms and commentator desks. Main task of the project was to increase NEP Switzerland's visibility with this landmark project.

How to produce more than 140 football matches in 4K/UHD

NEP Switzerland has doubled its 4K production resources in readiness for broadcast production work on the 2017/2018 season of the Swiss Raiffeisen Super League (RSL). Contracted to produce all of the Premier Swiss Football League’s games in 4K/UHD, the TV service provider has commissioned the 4K/UHD UHD 42 OB Vehicle – constructed by German system integrator Broadcast Solutions GmbH as part of its Streamline series, with two production areas supporting up to 10 cameras.

UHD 42 New mobile production tool

UHD 42 made its debut at the RSL season opener, a top match between BSC Young Boys Bern and FC Basel that took place at the end of July in the Stade de Suisse in Berne in front of a capacity crowd. Along with the UHD 41 OB – which was commissioned last year and is also being fielded for the Raiffeisen Super League – NEP Switzerland now operates two large-scale 4K/UHD OB Vans, and produces more than 140 league games in 4K during the season. Broadcast though the Teleclub Sport Pay-TV channel, RSL ranks among the world’s sharpest sports broadcasting. Main focus of the job was to promote NEP Switzerland’s production of Raiffeisen Super League in 4K/UHD using the two OB Vans and to explain the overall technology behind.

L-S-B Broadcast Technologies – Trade Shows

Trade Show Services on 1. September 2016

Pushing a brand at trade shows

L-S-B Broadcast Technologies was the manufacturer of the VSM Broadcast Control and Monitoring tool, the world’s leading control system for TV and Radio stations, OB Vans, or any Broadcast facility. The product still exists but with a different company (Lawo). VSM is a manufacturer independent Broadcast control system. The goal is to abstract the physical hardware from all control interface and logic requirements by directly interfacing to 3rd party broadcast equipment such as video routers, video switchers, audio routers/consoles, multiviewer systems, intercom, system glue etc, over native protocols. VSM is a toolbox to allow customers to directly combine the control parameters of the broadcast system into custom and workflow optimised user interfaces thus bringing simplicity and speed to operators. In the mobile environment, everything is open to change and turnaround and problem fixing must be handled as fast as possible. Therefore simplifying the control of numerous key broadcast devices into a single control system has huge advantages. Working for L-S-B Broadcast Technologies and handling all trade shows, one task was to develop a corporate identity, wording and design that should be prominent at trade shows. Over the years the company’s stand at trade shows around the world got bigger and bigger and the design and messaging more focused on serenity and logic. The result was a stringent use of the corporate identity, wording and design elements. As a result, the company increased its visibility and brand recognition.

Broadcast Solutions – Company and Products Brochures

Concept, Design, Editorial on 11. February 2016

Develop a full set of company and product brochures

Within the framework of defining the corporate identity of the German system integrator Broadcast Solutions, one part of this transition process was the redesign and new development of both the company brochures, the business unit brochures and products brochures. Broadcast Solutions is one of Germany's largest system integrators active in the broadcast business. Furthermore, the company is Europe's largest OB Van producer, with customers all over the world. The purpose of the whole project was to present the company as such with corporate brochures as well as portraying individual business units by the corporate identity previously developed by PRCOMM thus sharpening the company’s profile. Part of the project was the development of the brochures of the business units as well as the Broadcast Products division with its brands, taking care of distributing and marketing of several products within this entity. Part of the tasks within the project phase, which is still ongoing, was the development of the complete set of brochures about graphics, picture, overall design as well as text, both in English and German.
